Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Khruba Sri Wichai Monument and 3 more

Somewhere to go today. These stops are near each other, so the day is mostly spent at them rather than between them. We have not written this one up — the distances are measured and the descriptions come from Wikipedia, and it is offered as a suggestion rather than a guide we have driven.

    Wat Jet Yot

    ★ 4.7 (4,398)

Seven spires on a single stupa, copied from the temple at Bodh Gaya where the Buddha reached enlightenment. It is the temple people born in the year of the snake come to.

    Khruba Sri Wichai Monument

    ★ 4.7 (8,660)

The monk who got the road up Doi Suthep built. In 1934 he organised volunteers from across the north to cut it by hand in five months; the monument stands at the bottom of that road, and people stop to pay respects before driving up.

    ★ 4.8 (8,276)

A small temple in forest on the side of Doi Suthep, founded in the 14th century as the place where pilgrims rested on the walk up to Doi Suthep. The Monk's Trail still arrives at it, and it is at its best in the rains, when the stream through the grounds is full.
